A Stretch of the Imagination by Australian playwright Jack Hibberd is a surreal black comedy, which introduces us to the painfully lonely world of Monk O’Neill, one of the great comic creations of Australian dramatic literature. Monk’s colourful, rambling monologue cuts to the quick of what Australia once was and what one day it could become. The resilient ironies of the play will not be lost on today’s generation.
HIT’s touring production of this work was directed by Denis Moore and starred Gold Logie and Green Room Award winner John Wood as Monk O’Neill. Denis headed an impressive creative team of Designer, Shaun Gurton, Lighting Designer, Richard Vabre and Composer, Andrew Pendlebury.
